August

August 31, 2016 (Rutgers)

On a beautiful day Jim P and Min shoot 68 on a tight course to share honors. The round was courtesy of Min.

August 31, 2016 (Fox Hollow)

Reese Evans shots gross 73 for a one shot win over Greg Cavallo. Ed Korleski joins the mid week crowd and proclaims that he's in any future Wednesday that Babbetski plays. Evans wins $54 and spens $30 on the round of drinks  +24 - not bad at all.

August 27, 2016 (Green Knoll)

Shawn Smith, apparently back from numerous injuries wins by 2 over John Rutigliano who spent much of the front 9 worrying about attendance at the World Series. Other than having his cart, bag, and balls fall in the hazard in front of the 15th tee, John played a solid back nine. Ed K gets called off the course by work after 1 hole, what a dedicated employee. The NJ contingent of the DGA says goodby to GKIII - who thank god is going back to NC.

August 25, 2016 (Neshanic Valley)

Ron Emma made 3 birdies over 20 feet - "his wheelhouse", but couldn’t make any putt less than 6 feet, for a three shot win over Mark Schuler and Mansour Rismanchi. Ron moved on in match play with a 4&3 win. We played in 3.5 hours.

August 23, 2016 (Quail Brook)

On a beautiful day at Quail Brook, Mark Schuler and a friend needed 2 players to make a foursome….and Doug and GK3 stepped up to the challenge.  None of played very well which is why the scores were close….somebody was always screwing up.  The three of us tied the back 9 with Net 38's...enough said!  GK3 held on to win.

August 20, 2016 (Spooky Brook)

A perfect summer day at Spooky Brook.  Jay Griffith continues his hot streak with a Net 65 and a 2 shot win over "import" Doug Conway.  Jay had 3 birdies…but would have lost to George Keller who left 7 legitimate birdie putts short of the hole.  John Rutigliano could have won...except for three 9's on his card.  Bruce Rapp had 4 Greeniew and won the Par 3 Gross (12) and Par 3 Net (8) pots.

August 18, 2016 (Heron Glen)

A beautiful summer day at Heron Glen.  GK3 beats Dan Price by 2 shots…as 3 shots separated 5 of the 7 players.  Dan birdied 3 holes in a row (11,12,13) on his way to a Net 30 on the back 9…and Dan ties the DGA Record for 5 Greenies.

August 13, 2016 (Quail Brook)

A smaller than usual turnout for World Series but I'm sure the weather had a little something to do with it.  It was extremely hot, when I started my car it registered 106 degrees.  It didn't seem to be much of an issue for Jay Griffith, his net 66 was just enough to win World Series #4.  He shot net 33's to secure a one stroke victory and qualifies for World Series in his first year.  He won the Greenies Pot, and was in the Net Birdie Pot with 9 and Gross Par 3 Pot with 13.  Congratulations Jay.  Mike Rolph came in second with a net 67 and won the front with a net 32.

In the Aggregate race John Rutigliano (net 79), Bruce Rapp (net 77) and Bob Babetski (net 73) all end up with a total score of 287.  It is the fourth time in World Series history that there was a tie in the Aggregate race but the first time there was a three way tie.  It will be John's 4th appearance, Bruce's 6th appearance and Bob's 8th appearance. Congratulations John, Bruce and Bob.  This now leaves only one spot open for the World Series Points winner and now that race has just tightened up to possibly a two man race between Dave Perry and Dan Price.

Bob Babetski and Bob Nowark defeat Jim Rinaldi and Mike Jeffries +7 and now once again are in the finals.  Congratulations to the Bobbies.

August 11, 2016 (Fox Hollow - 18 holes)

Seven DGAers ventured to Fox Hollow. Thanks to Mike Jeffries for making the arrangements, but he had to bow out at the last minute due to a dental emergency.  The skies threatened the entire front 9.  Three of the seven took their lives into their own hands and played the back 9.  Quoting GK3, "yes we did and we didn't get that wet or die".  Rinaldi, Ceglia, Sr. and DeSimone opted to live and watched an impressive  lightning show from the club house.

August 11, 2016 (Rochester, NH)

It was oppressively hot…upper 90's and humid and no breeze even when driving the carts!  Doug Conway pars the last 4 holes to slip past Frank Thiry by 2 shots.  Frank Thiry registered his 2nd sub 4 hour round.  This time it was 3:35!

August 10, 2016 (Rochester, NH)

It was pouring when we arrived at Rochester Country Club for Round 3 of the Up Yours North Tournament.  The forecast was for on and off rain….so we put on our rain gear and set off to play as two threesomes.  Larry Thiry nipped Doug Conway by 1 shot for the win.  With the Olympics as motivation, the 1st group (Conway, Wolters and Frank Thiry) went for the gold to get Frank a personal record....playing under 4 hours.  We shattered that mark with a time of 3:22!

August 9, 2016 (Dunegrass, ME)

Another beautiful day for the Up Yours North gang.  Min Minutello shoots a good Johnny with a Net 31 on the Front 9 (we started on the 10th hole) and wins by 2 shots over Larry Thiry.  Larry had a strange day…starting with almost losing a golf ball on the putting green when his ball rolled into the reeds on the side of a pond....then went par - triple bogey - birdie - triple bogey - par - triple bogey in a 6 hole stretch to rack up his 3 Net Eagles.  Luke Wolters also had a good Johnny (37-50).

August 8, 2016 (Dunegrass, ME)

The 3rd Annual Up Yours North began on a sunny day at Dunegrass in Maine.  Doug Conway used his home course knowledge to win both nines and overall.  The first group played in 4 hours…the 2nd group played in 5.5 hours and let 4 groups play through!

August 6, 2016 (Neshanic Valley)

A hot, humid day and Mike Rolph scorches the field with a Net 63 and a 3 shot victory over Fitzgerald.  A lot of good scoring with Net Par being the Beer Line, Grote shooting a 29 on the back and Dave Perry with 4 Birdies.  Coming in second with 3 Birdies was….  Ahhh nevermind, no one remembers who comes in 2nd!  In Match Play, Babetski defeats Minutello 5 & 3 and Rapp defeats Smith 3 & 2.   Dave Perry was putting so bad from inside 18 inches that at one point he was a foot from the hole and thought about taking an Un-Playable and moving back 3 feet to save some strokes.
