DGA a NJ Golf Club

January

January 29, 2016 (Northdale, Tampa, FL)

Not a great day for anything but handicaps.  Bit wet after heavy rains yesterday, but the course recovered well.  No birds, no net eagles, no sandys, nothing worthy of note - but we got to play in the sunshine.

January 26, 2016 (Claw at USF, Tampa, FL)

Nice day on a tough, tight course.  Two huge alligators were the highlight of the day.  Mr. Minutello nips the rest of the players despite a 9 on a par 4 (matched by Jim P.).

January 16, 2016 (Spooky Brook)

Cloudy with showers early in the round but weather cleared on the back nine.  Babo had his breakout round of the winter with 11 pars and a 5 shot win over Dennis Grote.

January 14, 2016 (Renault Winery)

A very windy day with shots blown off line by 30 yards.  Not a lot of highlights.  Very slow greens.  Pars were very hard to come by.  Mike Jeffries chips in for a birdie on the first hole for the only birdie.

January 13, 2016 (Westchase, Tampa, FL)

Jim Petronchak plays steady golf and wins by double digits with a bit of home field advantage.  Course was tight with water on 16 holes, which everyone visited at least once, and slow, spotty greens.  Add plenty of swamp/woods and you get a long day.  So ends the first chapter of DGA Tampa 2016.

January 12, 2016 (Heritage Harbor, Tampa, FL)

Jim Petronchak wins by 7 on a very tight course with small greens.  Lots of big numbers.  Mike Rolph leaves an Eagle Putt just short.  Frank Thiry generously watered tees, fairways and the golf cart in a very casual round.

January 11, 2016 (Northdale, Tampa, FL)

Not great golf but sunny and relatively warm.  Jim Petronchak ekes out a 1 stroke victory thanks to big numbers from Mike Rolph and Frank Thiry on one hole (10) with a 5 putt from Mike including 4 no longer than 1 foot.  Frank Thiry hits the shot of the day left handed from the base of a tree 125 yards to the fringe.

January 9, 2016 (Arrowhead, Naples, FL)

The DGA South Tour played Arrowhead Golf Club in Naples, FL.  Weather was low 80's with partly sunny skies.  LT was in mid-season form with 31-37=68 for an 11 shot victory over a small field.  Mike Rolph opened his season with 3 penalty shots on his first 3 holes, as FTDGA shot 25 on those 3 holes (10,7,8).

January 9, 2016 (Neshanic Valley)

Mike Jeffries plays steady to win by 3 over Jim Rinaldi.  The greens were sooooo slow.  Getting the ball to the hole even on 5 foot putts was a challenge.  The rain started as a drizzle and then there were a few showers mixed in - not exactly the great weather we had in December.

January 7, 2016 (Sea Oaks)

Mike Jeffries is low on a day with frozen greens and fairways and a very tough course.  Many seemingly good shots ran into the woods or traps because of the frozen conditions.

January 2, 2016 (Spooky Brook)

Larry Thiry and Mike Jeffries tie with 71 in changing conditions - started out with frozen fairways, bunkers and greens and ended up with wind and soft fairways and greens.  Larry was the big winner.
