DGA a NJ Golf Club
Not a bad day for weather. Sunny all day with little wind. 3.5 hr round. Bruce catches Rick on the back nine with a 34 to win by 2. Jim "STORM" Rinaldi says we are no going to get much snow. I hope he is correct.
Mike rides a red hot back nine - even par gross to a one shot win over Bruce and Dennis. There was a lot of discussion after the round about declaring a ball lost and playing a ball out of hazard since Mansour took a 16 on 17. The other discussion centered on course conditions in the fairways and bunkers because any ball hit in the fairway had mud on it. It was also challenging to find a place to roll a ball over in the bunkers with all the deer prints and no rakes - All the guys that play regularly on Saturdays (basically everyone playing today) agreed that going forward for the balance of the winter season that we will adapt similar rules to the Caliendo Winter League. We will play lift clean and place in your own fairway and also in bunkers. You can still roll the ball over in the rough. This should make the conditions fair for everyone.
Bruce and Mike tie with terrific net 70s given the conditions - 11 shots better than Reese in 3rd. Rumson is always challenging and the winds were very strong today - pretty much 15 to 20 MPH the whole day. Greens were fast as usual and course was in great shape. In the Caliendo - Mike tied first in Senior Net and also won a Senior Skin with a birdie on #3. Ron won closest to the pin on #3 - 1"8" and also won and Open Skin with his birdie on #3. Bruce looks like he finished one shot out of cashing in Amateur Net - this was his first official round with a handicap. Petro also won a skin with a birdie on #17 but wasn't in DGA.
We played in 3 hours and 15 minutes walking on a windy cloudy day until 15 when the sun came out. Greens were frozen. The conditions played havoc with chips - land on the green and off it goes. Approach shots - forget landing on the green and if it was short it stayed short. Mike nips Bruce by one shot. Jim R saves a few dollars with a great sandy on the last hole. Bruce has the only shot that holds a green on a par 3 on 16 to capture the greenie pot.
A weird day on weird course with some quirky holes. Reese wins with a stellar 66 but Jim R nudges him out for most dollars. Stories included missed one-foot puts including one that banged off the stick and didn't go in. The DGA had some great results in the Caliendo - Reese finished 4th in the Amateur division - Jim R finished 3rd in the Senior division - Dan Price finished tied for 5th in the Senior division - Mike won a skin with a birdie on #1.
