Mike Jeffries wins both nines by one shot and the overall by three shots over Petro and Dave. Mike and Dave were tied heading to their 18th hole - Ridge 9 - Mike chips in for birdie over the left side bunker from a downhill lie to win the back and tie the birdie pot. The first two holes were played in dense fog and we could see maybe 75 or 100 yards. Then it cleared but the fairways were wet so no roll on tee shots and approach shots that were short stayed short. As usual Petro wins the gross par 3 with an 11 and Fitz wins the net with an 8 including a Sandy par on Ridge 4. Petro nearly aced Ridge 4 landing the ball two feet in front and it ended up two fee behind the hole.
Tough conditions to start, frozen greens, muddy fairways and rough, beer line in the 80s. Greens were very quick. Mike "I've never been an 11 before" Jeffries plays a steady round to win by 4 over Fitz. Mike's sandy on 16 was a thing of beauty, skull out of the right bunker into the high weeds 20 yards over the green, one hop into the hole for chippy sandy par.
Ron Emma almost pulls off the clean sweep with a stellar 66 and wins by 9 shots over Mike. Petro saves the honor for the rest of the field with 2 greens. Great winter day for the first day in the Caliendo winter tour classic. The DGA had an impressive performance with Jim, Reese and Ron in 2nd place in their divisions, Mike, Jay and Dan were in contention.
Mike Jeffries holds it together in rainy, windy conditions especially the last hour when it rained sideways at times for a 5 shot win over Jay. Mike finished 2nd in the 2-day Caliendo Winter Classic in the amature B flight and Ron finished 5th. Petro finished tied for 2nd in the senior division. Mike also finished second at Linwood CC which was a separate event from the Winter Classic.
Apparently a tale of 2 groups - the first group won all the money and the second group well… Mansour uses a strong back nine to edge Dennis by 1 shot. Min apparently had some trouble with the water hazard on #9 and the details were sketchy but he soldered through until 17 but DNF.
Brutal wind all day made for very high scores on a course that is challenging in calm conditions. Dennis not only wins the day but also wins $109 for closest to the pin in the Caliendo. This is the second time during his rookie season that he has won closest to the pin.
Mansour wins by 4 over Charlie and Rich on a brutally cold day with constant winds. The greens were hard and fast so any ball landing on the green went over the back. Mike J packed it in after 11 saying he had never been that cold in any winter round.
