DGA a NJ Golf Club
Hot day, slow round, quick greens and high rough (on Spooky no less) - Dave Perry wins by a shot over 3 second place finishers. Larry Thiry complains about the pace of play on the back nine after scorching the front with a 29. Lots of tough action in partners and match play as Schuler & Perry roll into the $ round +4 over Ron Ceglia Sr. & Shawn Smith, and Dave Ellis defeats Mike Jeffries 1 up. Dennis Grote has 3 sandies ("that's all I care about" quote from the bar)
Another short Wednesday field, Mr. Minutello rolls to a 4 shot victory. Fast firm fairways and greens made for difficult going for most of the field. Greg Cavallo wins 2&1 over Jim Petronchak.
The rain held off and everyone was able to finish without getting wet. Dan Price wins by 1 shot with a Net 65. The Match between Ellis and Jeffries was postponed due to the weather that never came (Jeffries is not real happy). In Partners Match, the team of Fitzgerald/Ceglia Jr defeated Emma/Evans +3. I asked Fitz how the Match went..."we were down, but then we won." Classic Fitz!
9 DGA played in the Paul Piccoli Memorial Tournament at Farmstead. Min amazed all of us by shooting better than his Age (Gross 82, Net 64) to win by 2 shots…including a blistering Net 28 on the Lakeview nine. One of the competitions in the tournament was Pink Ball...and the threesome of Larry Thiry, Dan Price and John Rutigliano won it by handing in their Pink Ball with a score of Gross 97...and they won $95 a man! A dollar per shot! And on the longest drive hole (#8 Clubview), Dave Perry pulled out an iron...and Ed Korleski said "Wait, let me call Joe Musella"...Dave went back to the cart, pulled out the driver and proceeded to lose his ball! So much for sticking to your strategy!
Ron Ceglia Sr wins the first World Series of the year with 2 shot win over John Rutigilano and Larry Thiry. John R is the biggest winner since he won the front and 2 pots. Babo and Bob N defeat Bob K and Tom W in partners. Mike Rolf wins his individual match over Jim Rinaldi. Dave Perry holes out from 100 yards on #4 for a par after hitting his first drive OB. Wally Heda wins the par 3 net with a 9 despite shooting a big number overall.
Dan Price rides a hot front nine to a 1 stroke win. Beautiful weather - best of the season so far. Rough was high and the greens were slower than normal for Fox Hollow.
Another dreary NJ day - think it is 8 in a row.Mike Jeffries stands ready to buy until Min the Magnificent comes in with a 1 stroke victory that took over 15 minutes to figure out in the bar. Mike still offers as he knows he is the big $ winner. Four singles matches are in the books with Shawn Smith, Mike Jeffries, Bob Babetski, and Bob Nowark advancing.
It was cloudy, Mid 40's, windy and drizzling, but it didn't bother Ceglia Jr. He shoots a Net 66 for a 4 shot victory over Jeffries and Emma. There were 5 Par 3's and only 2 Greenies won that Pot. A couple of them played long and into the wind. A couple of guys were using this as a warm-up (?) for Scotland. The good news is Bruce Rapp finished all 18 Holes!
