Dan Price plays steady golf on the front and back and wins overall with a net 70. George Connors, Charlie's older brother and prosective member, shoots a net 68 in his first qualifying round. (Seems like a sandbagger but who knows). Charlie shoots a gross 96 and was happy with that. Coming into the round he was not sure he would be able to finish because his swing has gone to sh!#. (Only shanked 3 today). If it was not for his love of the DGA he would certainly stop playing golf and go fishing more. Mike J and Jim P had nice rounds with 2 birdies each. Eddie had a great round except for one hole (a 13 on 5) but still wins some $ with a net 32 on the back, 9 nets and a piece of the net eagle pot. John R. and Bob N. also really turned it around on the back 9 today. John did say on the font 9 that the course s%cked and he would never play it again.
Very nice weather day at Quail. Lots of sun, cool on the front, but warmed up on the back. Some wind, enough to get your attention. Dan plays well and wins by 3 over Greg. All 7 guys played a Individual Match Play Qualifier. More on that later.
Wet day at Spooky Brook, early groups faired better with only having to deal with rain on the back, later groups saw more. Reese wins by 4 over Min with a 1 under par gross on the front. In Partners Qualifying, Jrut and Dennis beat Frankie and Fitz +12.
Today's round featured the Jim Rinaldi show !! Jim had three birdies which led to a three stoke win. The Florida boy showed up in shorts - 43 degrees at tee time. Hmmmm ???
Jim Rinaldi comes out of the bullpen to relieve the injured Jim Petro. But Billy Bylina shoots a 75 - 66 and wins by 8. It was a walk in the park. 4 Birdies, 11 Nets, 3 Net Eagles ...
May 13, 2023 (Neshanic Valley M/L - World Series Qualifier #2)
Another interesting day at Neshanic (WS#2) as tee times were on different courses despite a lot of effort to get everyone on the same track. We played 2 different 8 man DGA events- with the WS decision awaiting the return of the absent Commish. Ridge/Lake was won by Jim Petronchak with Andrew Keller 2 behind. The real story was Ceglia Jr, taking all the pots and the most $ in an up and down performance.
May 13, 2023 (Neshanic Valley R/L - World Series Qualifier #2)
The second wave of the DGA teed off on Meadow about an hour or more behind the 1st wave. Jim Rinaldi wins by 2 over Reese Evans and gets most of the $. Surprise of the day is LT with $2 but more importantly a good Johnny on the tougher Lake side with a birdie and 2 net eagles- welcome back LT.
May 11, 2023 (Neshanic Valley - R/M)
Bruce wins by 1 shot over Rick and Mike despite a tough last hole. He was playing with circa 2000 clubs but all that Florida golf has kept his game sharp. Perfect weather day - 80 no humidity. Greens were speedy. Rick wins the back with a "Seve" now named a "Ricky" on Meadow 9. He hit a low drive that barely cleared the "stuff" - went about 150 then duffed his second another 60 yards hit his third to 87 yards and proceeds to hit a great wedge over the bunker to a back right hole location to 3 feet and naturally roles it in. Classic Rick!
Rinaldi and Newport dominate -tying for 1st with Cegs Jr. the only other player to cash. Beautiful day, nice fairways, but still bumpy greens from the aeration. Other event of note - Larry Thiry's unique note saying that he would be "on standby and in the area" despite not having a tee slot turned out to be a good move as Charlie Conners, rumored to having had a terrible warmup session gave his spot to LT, who was last in and last place.
Second day of South Jersey trip for JP, JR and EK. Rick drives 2 hours for the pleasure of our company. JR wins by 2 over Rick…and the other players were just afterthoughts.
