DGA a NJ Golf Club
Mike Jeffries continues his recent hot streak winning by 5 over Dave Perry. Dave came out blazing on the front but closed with a Johnny. Mike nipped Fitz on the back with a birdie on 17 while Fitz had a small problem with the water again. He plans to petition the county to take out the water on 17. Course was soft and wet in places but the greens were faster than they looked.
Play was mediocre at best. Perry and Rismanchi tie with 79s. Zero birds, eagles and sandies. Soft course and tough wind made the course play longer than usual. Fitz had it going on the back. I knew he was lying 3, 100 yds out on 17. Found his ball just over the green and I asked 'you lying 4?' He says 'no, I hit "some" in the water'. He finished 12, 8.
Bright sunshine with freezing temperatures and high winds. Fairways and greens were frozen. 4 DGA members were the only players on the course. Scoring was difficult as evidenced by the tie in Net Birdies….everyone had ONE!
Mike Jeffries finished strong to pull away from Min for a 4 shot win. This Jack Nicklaus design is a great test with generous fairways and small undulating greens plus plenty of water in play. On Saturday we played a second round on the course and decided to have some fun and mix it up. We played Pinehurst. Each player played a tee shot and then each partner played the others ball for the second shot. After 2 shots the team chose which ball to play in and alternated shots until it was holed. We had 2 chip ins and several other birdies. We played 6 - 3 hole matches rotating partners. Made for a lot of fun on the last day of our escape from winter - at least for Mike and Ron.
