DGA a NJ Golf Club
Jim Rinaldi and Mike Jeffries tie in the winter league. Very windy, long par 3s, quirky par 4s and fast greens made for an adventure. A lack of course knowledge made a difference on 4 or 5 holes.
Cold start with temps in the high 20s at tee time and frozen greens which never really thawed. Dave Perry wins by 5 over JR & JP. First group goes out 0 for 16 on the Par 3 greens. Other than Dave, some mediocre play but at least we came out to play.
Jim Rinaldi wins by 1 over Jim Petronchak on a course with plenty of water and a few quirky holes. Great shooting by Jim and Jim on a par 70 course that was set up to play quite a bit tougher than the 124 slope rating. Min just misses shooting his new age of 88.
In the full winter league Dan Price shot net 65 to tie for the win. Reese Evans wins over $300 in skins and Jim R and Jim P both place - great showing for the DGA.
With the early snow on the ground up north, the small group headed down south and played a challenging course with soft fairways and fast greens. Ron Emma wins by 1 shot and gets a piece of everything with his "DGA" Handicap.
On the last day of the handicap season it was a sparse turnout at best. The recent regular Friday rain made the coarse quite wet and the Fall wind made the round a challenge. You would think that none of players really wanted to win when the scores came in but there has to be a winner. John Rutigliano was the best of a bad lot. His Net 78 was a winner by four stokes. He would tie the Greenies Pot with 1 and tie the Gross Par 3's with a 16. Dave Perry would come in next to last, win Birdies, Net Birdies and Net Eagles and loss no money. There were no Sandies. Our GOY winner, Charlie Connors had a rare tough day with a net 13 on 18 after hitting 5 balls of the tee.
It certainly was an interesting way to end the season. See you in April.
Jim Rinaldi is making great use of his new driver - hitting the ball 30 to 40 yards farther than the rest of us on many holes. He wins by 7 over Min on a difficult course. Mike Jeffries makes 2 smooth 11s and leads the equity pot!
The rain stopped just before our tee times, but then the 35MPH winds came and made things very difficult. Petronchak shoots Net Par for a 1 shot victory over the Match Play Finalists. In the Match Play Final, DGA Rookie Andrew Keller wins 6 & 5 over Reese Evans. Andrew successfully hit his Driver (not 6-Iron) off most of the Tee's. He credits his father for working with him the past two weeks on the range. Congratuations Andrew! Now for some interesting facts. After winning his Match on the 13th hole, Andrew hits his Tee shot on 14 and sticks it on the Green.... the 13th GREEN! The group on the green thought it was the group behind them hitting up, only to realize it came from the group AHEAD of them! Korleski hooks a wind aided approach on #9 under Dennis Grote's car in the parking lot. Rismanchi makes an 18 on #17 and ironically loses by 18 shots.
The opening week of the winter league. Copper Hill got the best of us - narrow fairways and fast greens led to some high scores. Mike Jeffries wins by 2 over Jim Rinaldi with a solid back nine. Ron " I could have been a contender" Emma probably would have won except for a 10 on number 7.
